Unnamed Kingdom, Wartime

The Beatryce Prophecy takes place in an unnamed kingdom during a time of war. In Chapter 2, the narrator reveals, “All of this took place during a time of war. Sadly, this does not distinguish it from any other time; it was always a time of war” (11). References to widespread war and violence can be found throughout the novel. This is the one defining feature of the kingdom.

Brother Edik is a monk of the Order of the Chronicles of Sorrowing. Their monastery is located in the countryside. To Brother Edik, the setting is idyllic. He raises Beatryce at the monastery for an unspecified number of years.
