In Country Summary

It soon becomes obvious to Richard why an additional person is needed to assist Jed: a group of people have arrived on the island next to the beach. Richard is horrified to realize the group is led by Zeph and Sammy, following the map he gave them. Jed knows this, and has asked for Richard specifically. Sal and the others still do not know about the existence of the map. Richard learns that there had been three other groups in the past, and that two gave up before finding the beach.
