Ko-Samui Summary

Richard, Francoise and Etienne plan to take traditional traveling methods to the coast, then employ a fishing boat to take them to one of the islands that is off-limits to tourists, an island that is very close to the one where the Beach is located. They then plan to swim to the Beach.

As the jeep is taking them to the beachfront where they plan to connect with a fishing boat, Richard imagines he is on patrol with a Vietnam platoon. Once arriving, Francoise and Etienne get a beach hut, and Richard gets one nearby. The three play swimming games in the ocean, practicing for the long swim they have planned in the near future. Etienne is alarmed about being stung by jellyfish but Richard shows him a trick he learned on another trip, how to pick up the jellyfish without being stung...
