Boom-Boom, Bangkok Summary

The Beach is an adventure novel set in Thailand about a young backpacking traveler named Richard. Richard is in search of new adventures and excitement and finds more than he can handle when he encounters a beach commune on a remote island off the coast of Thailand.

In the section entitled "Boom-Boom", the novel begins with a scene from the Vietnam war zone, and ends with the introduction of the main character, Richard, who was born in 1974, after the close of the Vietnam war.

As the section entitled "Bangkok" begins, Richard is in Bangkok, Thailand, and he remembers where he first heard of the beach, the subject of this novel.
