Point of View

King employs both the first and third-person points of view in his stories. “The Bone Church,” for instance, is written in the first-person point of view. It is written from the point of view of the lone survivor of an expedition into a jungle. The narrator tells his story to the men who are drinking in a bar with him. The story “Under the Weather” is written from the first-person point of view of Ellen’s husband. The point of view in this story is significant because the narrator shares with his reader his justification for believing that Ellen is still alive. Without this look into Mr. Franklin’s thoughts, the reader would not understand why he allowed his wife to stay in the apartment for so long even though she was dead.
