Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 Summary

In Chapter 5, Doyle finds himself to be a formidable beggar as Dumb Tom. Doyle decides to meet Ashbless as he is due to arrive in London in three days, and Doyle hopes Ashbless can provide gainful employment. Soon, however, two men plan to kill him on one side of the street, while on the other, Horrabin's men plan to attack. As one group tries to stab him, Horrabin's men saves him and delivers him to Horrabin. Doyle, realizing his situation, escapes, only to be followed by the men. He has the idea to meet Coleridge, but as he leaps onto a carriage, he is seemingly shot. He narrowly escapes as Horrabin threatens his men with death. From the shadows, the disfigured Luck of Surrey seems to know where Doyle is heading. Doyle escapes but is very ill and wounded...
