Prologue and Chapter 1 Summary

The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers begins with the accidental, magical creation of a werewolf and the opening of the time gate of Anubis. Throughout the rest of the novel, the hero, Brendan Doyle, fights gypsies, ancient magicians, beggars, and himself to survive after a jump back in time as he helps his new friend, Jacky, fight a werewolf. Over time, Doyle learns who to trust and proves that mortal man can win against all odds.
