Summary

Mary wakes up without pain in her empty apartment. She has been living alone for weeks, isolated and without human contact. She thinks of Clara and knows she should call somebody to go and check up on her. She calls Aunt Clara's neighbors and they tell her she should be calling the front desk of her assisted living community, and Mary feels horrible because she did not even know Clara was not living by herself anymore.

Mary rents a car and drives to Green Meadow, the assisted living facility where Aunt Clara lives. When the nurses wheel Aunt Clara over to Mary, she can only tell her how much she missed her even though she is also incredibly confused. Clara still believes her husband is alive and continually repeats herself.
