On Monday, September 18, Paul goes for his first day of school at Tangerine Middle School. He assures his mother that he doesn't need his records and that there's no need for her to take anything to the school for him other than his class schedule from Lake Windsor Middle School. Paul is introduced to Theresa Cruz, also in seventh grade, and told that she would help him find his classes for the first day of school. Theresa is not very talkative at first and Paul keeps trying to get information from her. He learns that Tino Cruz, a member of the soccer team, is Theresa's twin brother, though Tino is out of school because he's been suspended for wrecking an exhibit at the carnival.
