Book Two, Part Nine, Chapters 55-58 Summary

In Chapters 55 and 56, Sister, Josh, and Hugh are lost in the woods on the way to Mary's Rest. Sister's dream walk shows her the apple tree with SWAN written in the trunk. Paul and Sister argue about her mission. Their vehicle is overrun by bandit children who confiscate the glass ring. A boy named Bucky has been shot and the leader, Robin Oakes, demands Hugh take the bullet out. Though he does not want to and has no proper instruments, he agrees to try. He uses one of the spikes from the glass ring to dig the bullet out and it magically cauterizes the wound.

In Chapters 57 and 58, Rusty is attacked by a two-headed bobcat. Killer is killed in the fight. They arrive at Mary's Rest and are welcomed by an insane legless...
