Point of View

The majority of this novel is told from the point of view of a third-person narrator with a focus on several different members of the Foley/Levin family. Portions of the story, for instance, are told with a focus on Jessie as she deals with the events of the summer she turns 13. Other characters of focus include Blair, Kirby, and Kate. The novel deviates from the third-person narrator in Tiger’s letters. Tiger’s letters are written in the first-person point of view as he writes news about the war and his position to his family members. Although the author could have chosen to have the narrator follow Tiger just as he does the other siblings, the use of letters to include Tiger in the story is ideal considering the situation.
