Jack Welch
Jack narrates his autobiography. He is an only child, born to parents later in life, on November 19, 1935, in Peabody, Massachusetts. He is not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he is showered with love from his parents and Irish immigrant grandparents. Jack's mother is his confidante, and he emulates his father's love of people, world events, and work ethic. He quickly adopts a spirit for competition and lust for news and current events. From the age of 6, Jack reads all the newspapers his father brings home that have been left by passengers on the train where his father takes tickets. At age 9, spurred on by his father, Jack learns the game of golf and is caddying at the Kernwood Country Club.
