Chapters 34-36 Summary

In chapter thirty-four, Annie and Keith are making love when Cliff Baxter bursts into their motel room. Cliff separates Annie and Keith and begins beating Keith about the face. Keith falls to his knees, grabs a knife, and stabs Cliff in the leg. Unfortunately, Cliff moves before Keith can sever a major artery and uses his gun to beat Keith in the head again. Keith falls to the floor and Annie tries to protect him. However, Cliff threatens to kill her if she does not back off, so Keith urges Annie to go with Cliff, promising he will find her. As Keith lies nearly unconscious on the floor, Cliff threatens to castrate him, but his own men pull him away when they hear approaching sirens.
