Chapters 13-17 Summary

In chapter thirteen, Keith goes to the high school and plays basketball while he waits for Cliff Baxter to show up. At first it appears that Cliff will not show, a fact that pleases Keith for multiple reasons. Eventually two other cops show and give Keith a newspaper that announces a dinner being thrown for the chief of police that night, excusing Cliff from their meeting.

In chapter fourteen, Keith visits his neighbors and apologizes for the harassing car horns a few nights before that might have disturbed them. When the neighbors learn the truth of what was happening, the admit to Keith that they also have heard stories about Cliff Baxter's abuse of power. Later Keith goes to a local pond where he once spent many nights with Annie and their friends. Keith thinks about the past and the danger...
