Summary

The novel opens with a resident directory for all those who live at Moon Base Alpha. The list includes Dashiell Gibson, age 12, who is known as Dash and is the narrator of the novel. Those who live in his residence include his 6-year-old sister Violet and his parents, Dr. Rose Harris who is a lunar geologist and Dr. Steven Gibson who is a mining specialist. Others include Nina Stack who is the MBA commander; 13-year-old Rodrigo (Roddy) Marquez and his family; Garth Grisan who is the maintenance specialist; Dr. Ronald Holtz who is the doctor; Dr. Chang Kowalski who is a geochemist; and Dr. Daphne Merritt who is a robotics specialist.
