The next chapter is taken from the Rose Diary. According to the excerpt, Carrie approaches Clive Lawson in December of 1978 to be part of their plan. There are two reasons for hiring Lawson - he is a killer and he resembles Damian. Carrie and Clive meet and she tells him that his job will be to lead the San Dominican police on a "wild goose chase all over the island." She tells him she'll pay fifty thousand dollars. He asks for sixty thousand and she agrees. On May 9, 1979, Carrie says they turned Clive loose to make a big kill while posing as Damian.

Harold Hill, from Coastown, calls Brooks Campbell at 5:30 a.m. on May 9 and says that they have to find Peter Macdonald. His reasoning is that they could actually have Damian Rose already in custody among those...
