Summary

The second section of this book guide for Say Nothing is comprised of Chapters 7 through 12, with Chapters 7 through 10 forming the end of Book 1, “The Clean, Clear, Sheer Thing,” and Chapter 11 and 12 forming the beginning of Book 2, “Human Sacrifice”.

Chapter 7 is called “The Little Brigadier.” introduces Frank Kitson, a man high up in the British Army who became a leading strategist for the British in their conflict with Northern Ireland. Having been in Kenya previously and put down an anti-colonial rebellion there, Kitson’s life and work in various British military endeavors made him a “preeminent warrior-intellectual,” (71) knowledgeable in terror and torture tactics and adept at leading counter-insurgencies.
