Chapter 43 Summary

Katie stumbles back into her house. She wonders if she's gone crazy—creating an imaginary friend as an adult. She starts to question whether Alex, Kristen and Josh are real. Katie reaches for the letter and she's scared to open the envelope. She opens the letter and starts to read it.

The letter from Carly says that for most of her life her friends called her Jo. She remembers the night of the fire when she looked at the portrait hanging on the wall of Alex's bedroom. She remembers thinking now that Carly looked a lot like Jo. Now, Katie realizes that Jo is gone and that she'll never get a chance to enjoy the good times with Jo again.

Katie goes inside the cottage and finishes reading the letter. Carly asks Katie to love Alex forever, if she loves him now...
