Chapters 29 and 30 Summary

Late in the summer, Alex takes Katie and the kids to see rodeo monkeys—monkeys riding dogs. The following week, Alex says the carnival is in town and he invites Katie to go with them on Saturday. He also asks Katie to watch the kids that night so that he can drive Joyce to pick up her daughter at the airport. Alex says it has to be at his place though so the kids can go to bed at a decent hour.

Alex asks Katie if she ever wants to have kids, but she says she's not sure. He asks Katie what she wants to do with her life. She says she doesn't want to be defined by what she does but rather by who she is. She admits that she would like to be a wife and mother.
