Chapters 11 and 12 Summary

Josh gets Katie to fly his kite with him. Josh mentions that his dad says Katie is his friend. Josh also tells Katie that his dad asked them if he minded Katie coming to the beach with them Josh tells Katie that everyone needs friends. Josh also ends up telling Katie, inadvertently, that his dad doesn't yell or get mad.

When Katie goes back to Alex, she asks if he always spends time with the kids on the weekends and after work. He says always because he thinks it's important. She asks him about this since he mentions his parents never spent much time with him. He says he spends time with his kids because he enjoys it.

Further into the conversation, Alex tells Katie he was a detective in the Army. This makes Katie uncomfortable and Alex notices. He asks...
