Chapter 21 Summary

Harper and Reacher fly from D.C. to New York. On the plane, they talk about the case. He says the scratches on Alison's face were put there to keep up the charade of it being a serial killer with rage. He says the plain-vanilla motive is money. When they land in New York, they have dinner at the little Italian restaurant. Then, the driver takes Harper to her hotel and Reacher walks to Jodie's apartment, but she's not home yet.

Chapter 21 Analysis

Reacher and Harper are forging a closer relationship. They are talking about work, but there is a personal side underlying their discussions. Harper is having an inner struggle because she is attracted to Reacher. At the same time, she knows that he is involved with and committed to Jodie.
