Chapters 17 and 18 Summary and Analysis

Chapter 17, p. 235—Charlie Beckwith and Jim Vaught are blamed for the failure of Desert One, though General Davey Jones alters their plans to a great extent. Richard realizes that the same thing could happen to him, leaving him with the blame in an operation. Joint Task Force (JTF) operations are drafted to deal with various terrorist threats, with Richard participating in this planning. Richard wants a SEAL Command in this operation, not just a SEAL element. Richard's memo is top secret and the joke is if another officer looks at it, he may have to be shot. Admiral Crowe is the new Commander of the Navy (CNO) and he approves of and encourages Richard. The new anti-terrorism unit is to be called Seal Team Six. It is to be 75 men, deliberately wearing long hair and ready to blend...
