Summary

The narrative starts with a prologue. The narration is third-person omniscient and is written in the past tense. The narrator introduces readers to Isaiah and starts in East Long Beach eight years after Isaiah’s older brother, Marcus, was killed in a hit-and-run. Readers learn that Isaiah was in TK’s wrecking yard when he found the car that had hit and killed Marcus. Finding the car generated Isaiah’s memories of Marcus and thoughts of the negative impact of Marcus’ death on his life. That same night, with his dog Ruffin by his side, Isaiah went through the information he had about the car.
