Chapter 20 Summary

Mrs. de Winter is in shock. She does not say anything as Maxim comes to her, wraps her in his arms and begins kissing her. He tells her that he loves her very much. It is the first time that he has said this to her. She tells him she thought that he still loved Rebecca. He looks at her and tells his wife that he never loved Rebecca.

Rebecca was a very good actor. She could make anyone fall in love with her but he always had suspicions about her true character. She did reveal her true character after their wedding. Rebecca knew that he would not suffer the humiliation of a divorce so she struck a deal with him. She promised to make Manderley into the best house there was. She decorated.....
