Summary

In Chapter 17, Brother boards an airplane to go to England and see his sister in person for the first time in years. The plane meets some major turbulence, and for a moment, it seems that they might have a fatal crash. However, the plane ride resumes as normal, but Brother begins to think about the significance of death. He thinks about his and Sister’s recent communications over e-mail and the telephone. He fears that Sister will not fully accept his attempts at reconciliation due to the years of non-communication. However, in their recent communications, it appeared that she may be ready to forgive. During one phone call, he spoke about how his novel addresses America’s opioid crisis. Sister then finally told Brother about her terminal cancer.
