Summary

Chapter four centers around Henrik. Henrik was at the lab all night, dissecting a cadaver. He spends the rest of the night sleeping on the common room couch at the lab. His lab mates arrive at nine o'clock in the morning and Henrik wakes himself from his sleep. The lab mates and Henrik discuss various hypotheticals, but the chatter dies when a man named Volger enters the room. Volger is a research professor who own the lab. He, like Henrik, began his career at Stanford. After Stanford, Volger invented a type of running tracker which gave him momentary fame. For many years after, Volger switched between jobs in academia and building prototypes. Volger is currently the head of the Soft Tissue Biomechanics Laboratory. Henrik gives a lab presentation, after which Volger calls Henrik to the office to " have a little powwow" (89). At the meeting...
