Benevolence

Known as Ben, Benevolence is the princess of Montagne and heir to the throne. She has just turned fifteen as the story opens and lives a protected life as the only child of her parents, Prince Walter and Princess Prudence, Ben has been indulged to a great degree. She loves to eat, especially sweets, and is quite chubby from overindulging. Ben's mother never got along well with Queen Sophia and Ben feels that she's betraying her mother's memory when her own feelings about Sophia begin to change. She is a strong character though it takes a great deal of prodding to make her face up to her responsibilities as the future queen. When Ben realizes that everyone is calling her a spoiled brat, her immediate reaction is that her feelings are hurt. However, she's a smart girl and also realizes their assessments are correct.
