Chapters 22-24 and Olivia Summary

Chapter 22. Jean begins to realize that she is just as much to blame for the trouble her children have had since Kenneth's desertion as Kenneth himself. Jean tries once more to remedy this by forcing Jimmy to tell her the truth about the night of Kenneth's murder, but again he refuses. When the police show up at the house, Jimmy takes off running down the street. Lynley follows, chasing Jimmy all through the neighborhood until Jimmy finally jumps exhausted into the river.

Chapter 23. Lynley jumps into the river to save Jimmy, but struggles to find the boy in the quick moving current. Lynley finally finds him and makes it to shore where they are met by Havers and local cops. Lynley accompanies Jimmy home where he finally gets him to admit he has been lying to protect...
