Chapters 2-4 Summary

Chapter 2. Jean Cooper is still at work waiting for the repairman to repair the cooker when the police show up. They tell Jean that her husband, Kenneth Fleming, has been found dead in Kent and they want her to identify the body. Jean is adamant in insisting they call her by her maiden name even though she and Kenneth are still legally married. When Jean sees the body, she does not ask any questions but insists that they show her his entire body. Jean then asks the police to buy her a pack of cigarettes.
