Summary

Jimmy went to see Mr Pett about working for him. Mr Pett was delighted to see him as his wife had been very upset that they had not been able to bring him to America. Jimmy lied and told Mr Pett he had come over on a different boat, the Caronia, but realized that this was a mistake as Mr Pett may have seen him when they had sailed together. Mr Pett told Jimmy he recognized him from somewhere and Jimmy changed the topic. Mr Pett told Jimmy he would put him to work and Jimmy expressed his distaste for it.

Mr Pett and Jimmy left the office to go to the mansion to meet Mrs Pett. She was originally impressed by Jimmy’s demeanor which she mistook for remorse. She became irritated, however, when he started making fun of Ogden’s size...
