Part 5: Chapters 29-32 Summary

The Time for Vengeance. Catherine returns to Virginia in the aftermath of Carrie's funeral and begins placing herself in Bart Winslow's way. Bart confronts Catherine one day in a diner and confronts her with the blackmail letters. When Catherine tells him to ask Corrine about the letters, he tells her that he knows his wife has secrets. Bart tells Catherine that Corrine often looks at an old blue photo album, one Catherine immediately recognizes as an album containing pictures of her and her siblings before their father's death. Catherine tells Bart she is a niece of Corrine's, the product of an affair her grandfather had. Bart believes her and takes her for a drive where they discuss Bart's unhappiness in his marriage and the fact that his wife can never bear him children.
