Chapters 13-15 Summary and Analysis

In chapter 13, Shirley sets up an appointment with a trance medium that The Ashram hires to do readings with customers. Kevin appears to be a mild mannered, normal young man when he arrives at Shirley's door. Shirley gives him tea and asks questions about how the process works. Kevin tells Shirley about two of the four spirits who often channel through him. Kevin says that John comes out first most often and he speaks in Biblical speech. Another common guide that comes through Kevin calls himself Tom McPherson. McPherson is an Irish pickpocket in one of his lives and chooses that persona when he comes through Kevin. As Shirley prepares to witness Kevin channeling these spirits, she wonders how much of it she can honestly believe.
