Summary

Chapter 29 begins with Christina discovering that Jacob Jensen’s mother, who lived in her neighborhood, has burned to death in yet another house fire. Christina lays awake that night thinking of Ryan, at home nursing his wounded leg. The thought of his injury leads her to thinking about the shooting, which leads her to get up and write a profile of her murdered friend, Elise. While she writes, she can hear sirens in the distance coming closer. When she hears the honk of a fire truck she realizes that another house fire must have taken more lives. Her father checks on her, having heard the sirens as well. She deduces from the proximity of the emergency services vehicles that Jacob Jensen’s house must be the one burning. Christina, her brother, and her father join her neighbors to go see what is happening...
