Point of View

The story is told from the first person point of view of Merrin, the heroine of the novel. Merrin’s point of view is important, as it is she who is coming to the discovery that the Biotech Hub, at which she has always dreamed of working, is not what she had thought. Without having this firsthand view into the changes in Merrin’s thoughts, emotions and opinions, the reader would not have a full appreciation of how much Merrin has changed.

The story is told through a combination of exposition and dialogue. The majority of the conversations take place between Merrin and Elias as they get to know one another and learn their individual experiences with being Ones.
