Summary

In Chapter 17, Eddy helps Ming in the store after quitting the furniture business. Eddy’s son, Richard, spends time at his grandfather and Ngon Hung’s apartment, though mostly with their children. They take trips in their Jeep, sometimes as far as New York City to visit Jong Oy, the eldest daughter who ran off with a military man. Ray’s furniture business prospers, he merges with a lamp manufacturer, and breaks from the See family partnership. Sissee, the deciding vote, votes with Ray and Bennie to break up the family alliance despite that Eddy, currently unemployed and living in the now vacant Dragon’s Den, carried the family through the six years of the Depression.
