Chapters 5 and 6 Summary

Chapter 5

Emma has returned home. She is moping about, not hungry and grieving over Chloe's death. She will return to school in two days. It will be difficult going back to school without Chloe there. Emma is unable to sleep in her room because there are too many reminders of Chloe. Emma's mother is very worried about Emma's fragile state and does everything she can to support her.

Back at school, most kids just give Emma a sympathetic nod. They know better than to ask any questions. Mark Baker, the football quarterback, said good morning to her - actually acknowledging her existence for the first time. But everyone is sad. The school lost their top track star. But Emma is realistic; she knows that most kids will soon forget her.
