Nights at the Circus Style

Setting

Each book takes place in a different setting and city. The first is London, Fevvers' hometown. The people are bubbly in this book, and the spirit is almost happy. The night watchman at Fevvers' show jostles Walser with friendly banter, and that is the tone of the setting. In London, Fevvers isn't surrounded by luxury by any stretch, but she seems content enough just to be in her hometown. Also in telling her life story, Fevvers and Lizzie's happiest times are in London. Lizzie is also in her element, noted by the fact that she weaves her 'magic' to include Big Ben and fool Walser into a false sense of time.

Petersburg, Russia is the site for the second book. There is very little description of the city itself after the first chapter. However, as in London, the characters are used to depict the tone of the city. The clowns...
