Book 3, Chapter 10 Summary

Lizzie and Fevvers leave the Maestro with his two new pupils and their assistant, the Strong Man. The relationship is still strained because their priorities don't match at the moment. Lizzie believes that she should find their way back to civilization and find out about the letters they sent through Walser all that time ago. However, Lizzie will not leave Fevvers to travel on her own. Their bickering opens up a void that neither of them can make sense of. They are physically in the middle of nowhere, and their relationship no longer runs smoothly. They slowly get their bearings as Lizzie questions Fevvers about what she plans to do if she actually finds her young man, now a wild man.

In the midst of Fevvers' growing love for Walser, she forgot.....
