Book 3, Chapter 6 Summary

Walser wanders through the snowy plains of Siberia, unaware of his surroundings and even unaware of who he is. He crows to the stars, thinking that they are birds and that he is somehow affiliated to their breed. Crowing and chirping is the only language he remembers until he hears drumming and comes across a Shaman deep in meditation. The Shaman thinks Walser is one of entities that often comes to him when the Shaman taps into other realms during his time of reflection. However, even when the Shaman's ritual is complete and he ceases drumming, Walser remains. Walser, recalling how Olga fed him when he rubbed his belly, does so again. The Shaman, a little annoyed with Walser's lingering presence, urinates into a container and offers it to Walser to drink. Walser only knows that he is thirsty, and oblivious to the contents of the jar, begins to drink....
