Letters

Both Jamie and Jas send letters to their mother on several occasions in the hopes of making her come see them. Their mother gets the letters too late to attend some of their events, but manages to make it to the talent show.

Angels and Clouds

Mrs. Farmer uses several levels of clouds and angels representing each of the students in the class to encourage good behavior and good work.

Poster Tack Rings

Sunya makes two poster tack rings and puts small stones in them, one white and one brown. Sunya gives the brown one to Jamie as a token of their friendship. Later, when they stop being friends, Sunya gives Jamie her ring and refuses to take it back until the end of the novel when they renew their friendship.
