Summary

In Chapter 28, Turtle gestures for everybody to go upstairs but Brett refuses to leave her. Turtle sets up an ambush point waiting for her father to come through the front door but he instead circles around and comes in through the sliding glass doors from the deck. Martin asks Turtle to come to him, but she refuses.

Martin gets on his knees and wraps his arms around Turtle’s waist. Turtle thinks to herself that she should kill him right then but cannot bring herself to do so. Martin becomes agitated and tells everyone to get out. Brett tells him that he will not go because Turtle is his friend. Turtle hopes to avoid bloodshed by telling Martin that she will go with him but Brett tells her they will not let Martin take her anywhere. When Brett steps between them Martin shoots...
