Summary

Slim takes Walt to an abandoned house in South Dakota. They are accompanied by Slim’s partner, a man named Fritz. They have a large store of canned food, and they intend to hold Walt for ransom. They keep Walt tied to a chair so that he cannot leave. When Slim leaves the house to send ransom letters and other communications, Walt attempts to talk Fritz into letting him go, but he is not able to persuade Fritz to do anything that Slim has not told him to do. Walt is held captive for over a month, and Slim eventually announces that he has secured the promise of a $50,000 ransom. Slim then suddenly grows curious about Walt’s act; he accuses Walt of not really being able to fly. Slim wants to untie Walt so Walt can demonstrate his powers, but Fritz points out...
