Chapters 1 and 2 Summary

Dean rushes to catch the bus. He mentions that if he knew it would the last time he saw his mom, he would have stopped to hug her. Dean is on one school bus, while his brother Alex is riding another school bus to school when it starts to hail. The hail is so big that it causes the bus to have an accident and flip over on its side.

The other bus, driven by Mrs. Wooly, goes hurtling past them and crashes into Greenway store. She backs up the bus and rescues the six students on Dean's bus that are still alive, which is Dean, Jake, Brayden, Astrid, Niko and Josie. Josie has a bad head injury. There are also some elementary school children alive from Mrs. Wooly's bus. One of the students includes Dean's brother Alex.
