The High Queen, Chapter 4 Summary

Igraine goes to meet Gwenhwyfar and bring her to Caerleon for the wedding. As they start out, Igraine sees how terrified Gwenhwyfar is to travel and mistakes it for wedding jitters. Gwenhwyfar is partially nervous about the wedding, but she is also afraid of traveling outside her home. With Lancelet along for the journey, Gwenhwyfar begins to loosen up a little and relax. Igraine notices the spark between the two and has immediate suspicions about what will happen in the future. Gwenhwyfar does confess to Igraine that she is nervous over whether or not Arthur will love her for more than just her dowry, and if she will please him. From the beginning, though, the seeds are planted that create doubt in Gwenhwyfar's mind over whether Arthur really loves her,.....
