Summary

Chapter 3 continues. While looking at the severed cat head in the road, Young Woman feels a sense of sadness and compassion. She decides to put it somewhere more suitable, so she picks it up with a handkerchief. Suddenly, she notices Milkman approaching her, and she feels a sense of internal revulsion. Milkman begins to talk to her. He mentions Maybe-Boyfriend. As Milkman speaks, it becomes evident that he knows much about Maybe-Boyfriend. Milkman then heavily implies that if Young Woman does not stop dating Maybe-Boyfriend, then Milkman will kill Maybe-Boyfriend with a car bomb. (Maybe-Boyfriend works as a car mechanic.) Young Woman thinks about Eldest Sister’s first fiancé, who had been killed by a car bomb. Eldest Sister had loved that man, but after his death, she eventually married the man who is now First Brother-in-Law to Young Woman. Young Woman then thinks...
