Chapters 8-10 Summary

Chapter 8. Mangus chastises Fabrizio for using magic before sending him off in search of food. Fabrizio once again becomes lost in the many corridors of the castle, but no one will offer him directions. When Fabrizio arrives in the kitchen, everyone refuses to speak to him. Finally, Fabrizio does a magic trick that causes the kitchen staff to recognize him as the magician's servant and to offer him lots of food.

Chapter 9. Fabrizio follows the kitchen servant, Rinaldo, through the corridors of the castle. Rinaldo tells him that the servants are not permitted to speak to strangers for fear of spies. As they walk, Rinaldo suddenly becomes frightened and directs Fabrizio into a hidden passageway that leads to the royal family's private chapel. Rinaldo explains that he did not want to be seen by Count Scarazoni. As they talk, Count Scarazoni...
