Jamie McGregor

Jamie McGregor is a Scotsman who grew up the son of a farmer. Jamie gives up his share in the family farm at eighteen to travel to South Africa where he hopes to find diamonds. Jamie has dreams of becoming a wealthy man. When Jamie arrives in Klipdrift, South Africa, he has no idea how to go about searching for diamonds. Jamie meets a local man who owns a general store. The man tells Jamie that he will make him his partner if Jamie will go in search of diamonds in a distant stretch of desert. Jamie agrees, only slightly discouraged when the contract the businessman has him sign is written in Afrikaans instead of English.
