Chapter Six Summary

Alex awakes her first morning in her own cabin surprised to find how cold it is. She wraps up in an assortment of winter clothes before letting Bruno out. Alex is surprised to find Casey outside her door armed with a thermos of coffee and a basket of freshly washed laundry. He arranges to send a sign painter and phone installer to the store, and also get someone to fix her driveway before leaving for work.

Although Alex has scrubbed and revamped the store, business has been slow. Andy has also been resistant to the changes, not making things easier for Alex. She has not seen much of Casey in the past two weeks and is surprised when he drags a cardboard carton into the store.
