Summary

In Chapter 7, Charlie, Miranda, and Adam settle into their routine, waiting for Gorringe's appearance. Miranda moves in with Charlie. Adam still loves Miranda. Miranda becomes increasingly consumed by her doctorate. She and Charlie are much happier now they have more money. Ever since Adam gave Charlie pointers on buying and selling stocks, Adam taken over the work at Charlie’s behest. He is now making thousands. Charlie frequently cashes large sums and hides it in the apartment. Though Charlie attempts dispelling his that Adam is working without compensation, Turing's stories of the other artificials’ self-destruction haunts him.

Finally Charlie receives a callback from the engineer involved in Adam's manufacturing. She visits the apartment and administers a series of questions and tests on Adam. Charlie tries pressing her about the other Adams and Eves; she denies everything, insisting the stories are rumors. After she...
