Chapter 5 Summary

The children ask their Mom if they can take a quick walk outside and she agrees. Helen thinks that if they get some exercise and fresh air, they will stop fighting as much. Each sibling grabs an item to take on the trip, Mallory takes a fencing sword, Jared his backpack, and Simon grabs his butterfly net.

Mallory asks Simon why he is bringing the butterfly net and he implies that he hopes to catch more creatures from the Fantastical World. Mallory threatens to feed them to the griffin and Jared interjects before they can fight.

Simon looks at the map and they walk up the hill talking infrequently. As they get closer to the top of the hill, Simon suddenly decides to start walking back down the hill. Jared questions why they are heading back down and hears distant laughter. Following Mallory...
